http://ferozealam.prosite.comI was born in Kingsbury, North London in 1971. I grew up in Hemel Hempstead. I graduated from Derby university in 1995. I studied visual art, film and creative writing. In 2006 I exhibited in Derby Museum and art gallery where I was artist in residence, this lead to a showcase in Nottingham Castle Art gallery. Whilst making work for the show, I suffered a prolonged acute depressive episode that was latterly diagnosed as bi-polar affective disorder category one. Over the years after many hospitalisations I began to write and paint again. My experience had changed my approach significantly. I had a chance to re-focus and reinvent my pictorial process. As my focus returned, the intervening decade served as a enforced and unintended research and development phase for me.  I often collaborate with my partner Ravinder Padam. Our sensibilities are similar. Recently I’ve contributed paintings to Vice magazine and to The Terminal Press. Two Statements.Yes to an art of cogency.Yes to an art as brutal as life.Yes to an art of pictorial dissection. Yes to an art of ascetic commitment.Yes to an art of figural unpacking.Yes to an art with nuance and verve.Yes to an art with bold social value.Yes to the art of existential weight. Yes to an art of maximal meaning and Yes to an art of maximum engagement. Yes to an art of continual renewal I paint to exteriorise feelingI paint to externalise my rage  I paint to exorcise input.I paint to document my learning.I paint to concretise my concernsI paint a reflection of my psychical state. I paint because it’s intrinsic to who I am.
