About the course
These workshops will take a unique approach to crafting intimate scenes of all kinds, ideal for practitioners of creative non-fiction, alternative romance, and prose poetry. Using examples from acclaimed authors such as Miranda July, Maggie Nelson, Ocean Vuong and Carmen Maria Machado, we will explore underrepresented approaches to sensuality and love. Avoiding cliché representations, this workshop will focus on the affective realms of awkwardness, humour, and the catharsis of breaking taboos.
The outcome will take form in powerful scenes not just about sex and sexuality, but moments which dig deep to the heart of character and narrative. Over four sessions we will explore close reading of inspirational texts, writing prompts and unorthodox exercises, insightful feedback and emotional unpacking.
